Deaconry Building, Zürich

June 2015, sliding window prototype

The façade of the Deaconry Bethanien receives consistent treatment on each side with repetitive patterns of external sliding glass windows. The prototype for the sliding glass windows has now been completed. Individually adjustable sliding shutters on the façade creates a variability, allowing the grid of the windows to temporarily disappear and hinting at the simultaneous existence of multiple functions. Each of the various programmatic elements such as the palliative care, hotel, conference room and bar, will manifest themselves through the use of the openings, generating an intriguing building skin.
